The Department of Hydropower Development (DHPD) is the nodal agency of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh responsible for the development, regulation, and promotion of hydropower in the state. Arunachal Pradesh possesses immense hydropower potential with numerous rivers suitable for power generation, making it one of India's premier hydropower destinations.

DHPD was established to harness the state's vast water resources for sustainable energy generation and economic development. The department coordinates with central agencies, developers, environmental bodies, and local stakeholders to ensure responsible hydropower development.

• 8 Completed Projects: 6,055.5 MW total capacity
• 8 Projects Under Construction: Active development phase
• 96 Projects Under Implementation: Various stages of environmental clearances and coordination
• Total Portfolio: 112 projects with approximately 47,993.5 MW total capacity

4. Siang Basin - 18,293 MW potential (44 identified projects, 29 approved)
5. Dibang Basin - Significant potential
6. Lohit Basin - Significant potential
7. Tawang Basin - Significant potential

Leadership

DHPD is led by a Commissioner with support from five Chief Engineers managing basin-specific operations, ensuring coordinated development across all regions.
